Prenatal diagnosis of complete atrioventricular septal defect with truncus arteriosus.

Truncus arteriosus (TA) is a rare cardiac anomaly constituting less than 1% of all congenital heart defects. Its association with complete atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD) is extremely unusual and only 12 cases diagnosed postnatally or postmortem have been reported so far. We describe the first case of truncus arteriosus with AVSD to be diagnosed prenatally by fetal echocardiography.

Atrioventricular septal defect in prenatal life.

In a series of more than 3500 pregnancies referred for fetal echocardiography, 29 cases of atrioventricular septal defect were detected in the fetus. There was a chromosomal anomaly in 14 of these cases, left atrial isomerism in 12, and right atrial isomerism in two. Complete heart block was found in 11 of the cases with left atrial isomerism. Many associated cardiac abnormalities were found, p...

Prenatal Diagnosis of Complete Atrioventricular Septal Defect: Perinatal and Neonatal Outcomes

Objective. The purpose of this study was to establish the outlook for fetuses diagnosed with complete atrioventricular septal defect (cAVSD) prenatally and its relation to additional cardiac, extracardiac, and chromosomal abnormalities. Methods. We retrospectively reviewed fetal echocardiograms diagnosed with cAVSD from January 2002 to December 2007, comparing fetuses with and without aneuploid...

Predisposing factors of valve regurgitation in complete atrioventricular septal defect.

OBJECTIVES We sought to determine the intrinsic risk factors of valve regurgitation in complete atrioventricular septal defect. BACKGROUND Progression of regurgitation varies in each case, although the structure of the common atrioventricular valve itself is a predisposing factor. METHODS In 90 consecutive patients undergoing surgical repair, we evaluated the preoperative and postoperative ...

Williams syndrome associated with complete atrioventricular septal defect.

Williams syndrome is a genetic disorder associated with characteristic facies, supravalvar aortic stenosis, peripheral pulmonary stenosis, mental retardation, hypertension, premature aging of skin, and congenital cardiac defects. Many cardiac defects such as bicuspid aortic valve, mitral valve regurgitation, coarctation of the aorta, and ventricular or atrial septal defects are linked to the sy...
